DIVA!

This exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum showcases everything DIVA!

(Firstly excuse the photos, they have upoladed in the wrong order so please scroll down  and then to the top! Technology is beyond me sometimes!)

Running until April 2024, the exhibition lets you get up close to some of the most famous Diva's in the world.
You enter the exhibition at the desk and are offered a headset. DO take one as it really does enhance the exhibition. Automatically, the headset plays music connected to the artist / era.
Starting in the music hall days, most of the collection is behind glass cases. But each one is fascinating.
From a dress and necklace owned and worn by Sarah Bernhardt. A costume worn by Ingrid Bergman in the film 'Joan of Arc' to Bette Davis's famous 'All about Eve' outfit.
You relive the history of the costume and its owner.

Case after case are filled with costumes.
Alongside some are moving images, so Marilyn Monroe's famous Black outfit (worn in the film 'Some Like it Hot' as she sang 'Running Wild' on the train) comes to life.
Displayed with an iconic image of the actress.

Music plats a huge part of the exhibition, Diva's are probably  more associated with Music careers!

Jessye Norman, the amazing Operatic singer and Maria Callas are represented.

As you walk upstairs you see two iconic outfots.
Firstly Rihanna's Met Ball costume (very clerical!) and the Suit worn by Sir Elton John to his 50th Birthday party. Complete with feathered train and hat topped with a ship in full sail!

Above your head are images silhouetted on the roof of the museum of the music greats: Cher, Dolly, Nina Simone and Mariah to name a few.....

You are allowed to walk around at your own pace, and its here the headsets come into their own. Each cabinet playing music ofg the owners outfit.
Most of the outfits were those worn for the Met Ball, magazine covers and red carpet events.
Adele's bright yellow ensemble for a magazine cover photo shoot.
Two show outfits worn by Pink!

A pair of Prince's shoes (one of two men to have personal items in the exhibition) are on display. They are SO tiny!

Edith Piaf's iconic black dress is there alongside her make up case.

Debbie Harrys Tunic and trouser suit from a 1979  appearance on the Old Grey Whistle Test

Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Ella Fitzgerald all there!
Madonna: A screen showing Vogue and magazine cover represents her. But in my view some more well known Diva's are not represented well enough. Dolly Parton just has a Doll that looks very out of place.

The centre piece is a centre stand showcasing 8 outfits. Tina Turner and her amazing Firebird costume. Cher's show outfits and a wellington boot with sequins on it 'DSB' - Dame Shirley Bassey's famous Glastonbury outfit.

You can sit and watch a film of some of the iconic singers, or dance to yourself with a little bit of RuPaul's drag Race!

This is an exhibition that does have something for everyone. After you visit there is so much to see in the museum itself too!

A must see for anyone interested in costunes, film, music. Be a pert of the 'Silent Disco' as you walk around, I guarantee at some stage you will be singing to yourself and tapping your body to the music!

If you do go ENJOY!
