On Remembrance Sunday, at War memorials & Cenotaph's around the country (& world) people gather to remember those who sacrificed their lives, to give us the Peace we have today and to also thank those currently serving in conflicts around the world.
At Leeds War Memorial, serving members of all services attend with delegations form the City Council, representative of the Queen, and Parliament. As well as all faiths.
After a Two-minute silence, Wreaths are laid amidst a sombre silence from the crowd who fall silent to remember.
The Memorial was originally unveiled in October 1922 by Viscount Lascelles (husband of HRH The Princess Mary) who lived at Harewood House. And was situated in City Square. It was moved to its present location in Victoria Gardens in 1937 due to traffic management.
On the top is a winged figure of peace, and on the side stands St George over a slain Dragon.
